Winter In Lolita

The colder months of the year are always so much more active for me in lolita. I love being able to bring out the petticoats in Alabama without burning up.

For my lolita comm's Halloween meet up this year, we had a day at the botanical gardens. Initially, I had a completely different outfit planned, but I ended up planning my outfit around matching my seldom worn red 20's style flapper hat.

During November, I spent the month engrossed in NaNoWriMo. I am very happy to announce that I was successful in my 50,000 word endeavor. My work is tentatively titled The Red Queen and chronicles an ant level perspective on the invasion of red ants from South America to the shores of Mobile, Alabama. I don't consider the work completed yet by a long stretch, so I'm hoping to continue working on it in the new year along with other more fantasy themed works. For the month of December, I had two lolita meet ups during the course of the month. The first was organized around viewing the premiere of the second Madoka movie, and my comm was graced with the presence of the indie lolita designer Haenuli. I was happy to get to meet someone whose designs I admire so incredibly much. She wore one of her own designs that I personally have wanted for a while now, Royal Kitten. Later in the evening after spending so long at the mall, my comm had a great time at a local sushi restaurant where I loved the coconut tofu before we headed to see the movie itself. Sadly, I made the great mistake of not pre-ordering my ticket so I left the meet up at this point, but I'd had enough of a great time to by far make up for not being able to see the movie on the big screen.

Later in December, I was blessed with the opportunity to attend an amazing rendition of The Nutcracker with my fiance and lolita comm. Beforehand, I celebrated Christmas with my fiance's family full of extended relatives and then managed to still make being able to have dinner with my local lolita comm at the Purple Onion. We had some trouble finding the place where the ballet itself was hosted, but we were able to make it only a little late to the beginning of the performance. I'll admit to knowing little about ballet, but I found myself captivated by the scene before me, and I thought the effect of making it 'snow' during the intermission by letting little tufts of soap bubbles float down was so amazing.

My favorite photo of us from the day. <3

I have to say, I've had a great time in lolita this year, and I'm glad to continue to see my wardrobe and coordination skills grow. I wish you a happy 2014 full of frills and delights!
